THE BOOK OF CHARLIE
THE BOOK OF CHARLIE
In 1974, Jeremy, an 11-year-old, African American boy, is sent to his extended family in rural Alabama to read the Bible to his dying grandfather. Instead, “Papa” has Jeremy read a gritty, pulp fiction novel, where the two inhabit the roles of its charming anti-hero, Felix Vesey, and his side kick, Benny, as they battle to reveal the killer framing Felix for murder. As Jeremy moves through adventures in both worlds, he learns about the strength of familial bonds, the complexity of human relations, and gains the confidence he needs to begin adolescence.
